Permits to work
Open Work → Permits. The register has four views: Live, Waiting, Drafts and Finished.
From draft to live
Section titled “From draft to live”- Draft. Choose Draft a permit and pick its type. Only you see a draft until you send it.
- Waiting. Once sent, the permit waits for the people its type names to agree, approve and issue it. Opening it shows who it is waiting on. Where a site asks for two approvers, the first approval is recorded and the permit waits for the second. Nobody can approve their own permit.
- Issued. An issued permit has a clock from the moment it is issued, so one that never starts still runs out.
- Live. Work starts when the permit is accepted on site and its checks pass.
What is checked before work starts
Section titled “What is checked before work starts”- The crew. Everyone signed on holds the certificates and inductions the work needs.
- The atmosphere. Gas readings are added one substance at a time. A round counts only when every limit has a passing reading from the last 30 minutes.
- Isolations. The isolation points the work needs are in place, from the isolation register.
- Other work nearby. SIMOPS rules check the permit against other live work. When two jobs clash, the site’s owner decides: hold this permit, hold the other one instead, or let both go ahead with a reason. The holders of both permits can read the decision.
When a check fails, the permit says what is missing, why it matters and how to fix it.
While it is live
Section titled “While it is live”- Timers. Permit validity and gas re-tests count down on every screen that shows the permit, and alerts escalate as expiry nears.
- Suspend and resume. A permit can be suspended, for example when a gas test fails, and resumed once the cause is cleared.
- Handover. At a shift change, the permit is handed over and the incoming holder acknowledges it.
Finishing
Section titled “Finishing”A permit ends by being handed back, closed, cancelled or expiring. Finished permits stay in the Finished view as the record, and every step is on the audit trail.
